On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, a report meeting was held at Nanka Memorial Hall by students who participated in the short-term overseas dispatch program.
We hold a report meeting every year by the dispatched students to share with other students the valuable experiences they gained while studying abroad. Approximately 50 people participated in the debriefing session, including faculty, students, and international students staying on a short-term overseas program.
The Graduate School of Science and Engineering (engineering course) runs a short-term overseas dispatch program as part of the international exchange program for graduate students. This year, we sent two students to Bandung Institute of Technology in Indonesia, two students to Gadjah Mada University in Indonesia, two students to University of Malaya in Malaysia, and two students to National Yangming Jiaotong University in Taiwan.
At the debriefing session, six students who studied abroad in Indonesia and Malaysia, reported on their respective study abroad experiences. The participants listened intently to interesting stories about research activities at the host university, local food, and interactions with local people, and asked a variety of questions after the presentations. There were also stories of bitter experiences, such as one where they fell ill and went to the hospital, and another where their room was raided by wild monkeys.
The dispatched students told the audience that there is an experience that can only be gained by going to the country, and that they would like other students to study abroad through this program while they have time.
報告会の後、国際連携委員会の中畑委員長より来年度プログラムについて説明がありました。
After the debriefing session, Chairman Nakahata of the International Cooperation Committee explained next year’s program.
International students who came to Japan on the short-term acceptance program (autumn) in 2023 took Japanese classes by Japanese language instructors. The participants this time were 5 students from Bandung Institute of Technology and 18 students from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia.
The Japanese class was held twice. In the first class, they learned about self-introductions and basic things such as days of the week and times. In the second class, they learned how to talk while shopping or eating out, and how to get help in case of trouble.
留学生は積極的に講師に質問し、楽しく日本語を学んでいました。
The international students actively asked questions to the instructors and had fun learning Japanese.
